Watermelon-Grapefruit Electrolyte Drink

Watermelon-Grapefruit Electrolyte Drink

This drink is a delicious way to hydrate in the summer heat. Both watermelon and grapefruit are very cooling fruits in nature so this drink can be a good alternative to commercial electrolyte drinks that contain lots of high fructose corn syrup or artificial colors and flavorings. Grapefruit is great for digestion and the peel contains bioflavonoids as well as Vitamin C, which helps to improve circulation and strengthen gums and arteries. Watermelon adds a delicious flavor and is helpful in building body fluids, so it helps prevent dehydration. The Celtic sea salt is unrefined (as opposed to regular table salt) and therefore has a mineral profile most similar to that of our blood. These measurements are approximate. Experiment, have fun, and see for yourself what you like more/less of.

In a blender, combine:

1 whole grapefruit peeled, but with much of the white coating left in tact.

Approx 2 cups of watermelon, diced

About 7-8 ice cubes

1 ½ cups water

pinch of Celtic sea salt

1 tbsp agave nectar, raw honey or stevia (to taste)

Blend and enjoy! This makes enough for 2-3 8 oz glasses
