Fiber-Berry Smoothie

I’ve been making this extremely fiber rich smoothie for breakfast lately. Many of us don’t get enough fiber. Fiber is so important because it helps keep your bowels moving regularly (a good thing, right?), lowers blood cholesterol and helps with losing weight. That’s why I wanted to share this breakfast smoothie, since it’s a quick easy way to get fiber in early in the day. I love it because it’s so quick and easy to make…even more so than other smoothies because I prepare the dry ingredients the night before and add the frozen berries and water in the blender (which takes the total time to about 30 seconds.)
They say (“they” being the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine) that men should get about 38 grams of fiber (30 if over 50 years old) and women should get 25 grams (21 if over 50) per day. I am not much of a calorie or gram counter, so I just get as many whole foods into my diet as I can. Fruit, seeds, nuts and whole grains are some of the most fiber rich foods, and this smoothie is packed with them!
1 TBSP Psyllium
1 TBSP Chia Seeds
1 TBSP wheat germ
2 TBSP Flax seed meal (I usually grind my seeds in a coffee grinder just before putting in the smoothie)
1 -2 TBSP pea protein powder or other protein powder
½ TBSP raw maca powder
½ teaspoon blue green algae powder
1 handful frozen blueberries/cherries
1 ¼ cup water, juice, almond milk, or coconut water
The chia seeds and flaxseeds add fiber and lots of Omega 3 oils, and the berries add antioxidants.
Blend and enjoy!

I never tried this recipe and can’t wait, thank you:))
